The descent is easier compared to the climbs of earlier days, giving trekkers more time to enjoy the changing landscapes.

As you leave the vast alpine meadows behind, the trail re-enters lush forests filled with the sound of flowing streams and chirping birds. This section of the trek feels calm and refreshing, with plenty of shade from towering trees. You may come across local shepherds grazing their flocks, adding to the charm of the Himalayan countryside.

By afternoon, you reach Taluka village at about 6,800 feet, a small but lively settlement with traditional wooden houses. From here, a short jeep drive of about an hour takes you back to Sankri, the base camp where the journey began. The Phulara Ridge Trek is an easy to moderate trek, but preparation is essential to handle steep climbs, snow trails, and high altitude (12,500 ft). Here’s what fitness level you need:

Stamina

  • Be able to jog or brisk walk 4–5 km in 30–35 minutes without much difficulty.

  • Practice brisk walking or jogging at least 3–4 times a week.

Strength

  • Build leg strength with squats, lunges, and stair climbing.

  • Strengthen your back and shoulders with push-ups, planks, and core exercises (for carrying a backpack).

Cardiovascular Endurance

Where is the Phulara Ridge Trek located?

The Phulara Ridge Trek is located in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, starting from Sankri village.

It is considered an easy to moderate trek, suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. Daily trekking distance is around 5–8 km with gradual ascents and descents.

The best time is May–June (spring/summer) and September–October (autumn). During these months, the weather is pleasant, meadows are lush green, and Himalayan peaks are clearly visible.

The trek is 6 days long, including travel to and from Dehradun. The actual trekking distance is around 25–28 km.

The highest point of the trek is the Phulara Ridge at 12,150 ft, offering 360° views of Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch ranges.

Accommodation includes guesthouses/homestays in Sankri and alpine tents during the trek (triple sharing with sleeping bags, mats, and toilet tents).

A basic fitness level is required. You should be able to jog or brisk walk 4–5 km in 30–40 minutes comfortably. Regular cardio, stretching, and leg strengthening exercises are recommended before the trek.

Yes, it is safe. The trail is well-defined, and professional trek leaders carry first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, and safety equipment to ensure a secure trekking experience.

Sankri can be reached by a 200 km drive from Dehradun (8–9 hrs). Shared cabs and Tempo Travellers are commonly used for the journey.
