Dayara Bugyal Trek itinerary
Day 1. Dehradun To Raithal
Distance: ~185 km
Time: 7–8 hours by road
Altitude: Dehradun (640 m) → Raithal (2,100 m)
Your Dayara Bugyal Trek begins early in the morning from Dehradun, which is well-connected by road, rail, and air. After assembling with your trek group, you will start a scenic drive towards Raithal village, the basecamp for the trek.
The journey takes you through some of the most beautiful stretches of Uttarakhand. As the drive progresses, you’ll pass through Mussoorie, enjoying glimpses of the Doon Valley, and then continue along the Bhagirathi River. The road winds through charming towns such as Uttarkashi, Chinyali Saur, and Bhatwari, offering a mix of mountain landscapes, river valleys, and traditional Garhwali culture.
Raithal, a quaint Himalayan village located at 2,100 meters, serves as the starting point of the trek. Known for its warm hospitality and wooden houses, the village also provides stunning views of Bandarpoonch and Srikanth peaks right from the base itself.
Upon arrival at Raithal, check into a guesthouse or homestay. After freshening up, you can explore the village, interact with the locals, and enjoy the traditional Garhwali culture. In the evening, there will be a trek briefing session with your trek leader, where you’ll get important information about the upcoming trail, safety guidelines, and equipment.
End your day with a hot dinner under the clear Himalayan skies before resting for the night. The serene atmosphere of Raithal sets the perfect tone for your adventure into the meadows of Dayara Bugyal.
Day 2. Raithal To Gui Campsite
Distance: ~4–5 km
Time: 3–4 hours trek
Altitude: Raithal (2,100 m) → Gui Campsite (2,900 m)
After breakfast, your trek officially begins from Raithal village as you head towards the beautiful Gui Campsite. The trail today is a gradual ascent through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and maple trees, creating a refreshing atmosphere and plenty of shaded paths.
Along the way, you’ll hear the chirping of birds and may even spot Himalayan wildlife like langurs or mountain goats. Occasional clearings on the trail offer mesmerizing views of snow-covered peaks such as Shrikant, Gangotri I, II, and Jaonli, giving you a glimpse of the grandeur awaiting ahead.
The trek to Gui is relatively short but allows you to slowly acclimatize to the altitude. On reaching the Gui campsite at 2,900 m, you’ll be welcomed by a meadow surrounded by dense forest with majestic views of Bandarpoonch Peak in the backdrop.
At the campsite, hot lunch will be served, and the rest of the afternoon can be spent relaxing or exploring the surroundings. Gui is also known for its stunning sunset views, as the golden rays fall on the Himalayan peaks, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
In the evening, enjoy tea, snacks, and later a warm dinner under the starlit sky. Stay overnight in tents, experiencing your first night of camping in the Himalayas.
Day 3. Gui To Dayara Bugyal
Distance: ~3–4 km
Time: 3–4 hours trek
Altitude: Gui Campsite (2,900 m) → Dayara Bugyal (3,400 m)
Today’s trek takes you to the highlight of the journey—Dayara Bugyal, one of the most stunning high-altitude meadows in India. The trail starts with a steady climb from Gui, passing through dense oak and rhododendron forests before gradually opening up into wide clearings.
As you ascend, the trees begin to thin out, and soon you’re greeted with vast stretches of lush green meadows (or snow-covered expanses in winter). The panoramic views get grander with every step, offering magnificent glimpses of Bandarpoonch, Black Peak (Kala Nag), Gangotri, Jaonli, and Srikanth.
Reaching Dayara Bugyal at 3,400 m is a magical experience. The endless meadows stretch as far as the eye can see, changing colors with the seasons—vibrant green in summer, golden-brown in autumn, and sparkling white in winter. This spot is also a photographer’s paradise, with breathtaking landscapes and 360° Himalayan views.
On arrival at the campsite, you’ll settle down and enjoy a hot lunch amidst the serene meadow surroundings. The afternoon is free for exploration—you can walk around the meadows, click pictures, or simply relax while soaking in the fresh mountain air.
As the evening sets in, witness a mesmerizing sunset over the snow-clad peaks before gathering around for tea, snacks, and later a warm dinner. Spend the night camping in Dayara Bugyal, under a sky glittering with countless stars.
Day 4. Dayara Bugyal To Bakaria Top And Back To Gui
Distance: ~6–7 km (round trip)
Time: 5–6 hours trek
Altitude: Dayara Bugyal (3,400 m) → Bakaria Top (3,650 m) → back to Dayara Bugyal
This is the summit day of the Dayara Bugyal Trek, taking you to the highest point—Bakaria Top (3,650 m). The trail begins with a gentle climb through the vast rolling meadows, gradually turning steeper as you move closer to the top. Along the way, the views keep unfolding, offering unobstructed vistas of towering Himalayan peaks.
As you trek higher, you’ll witness majestic views of Bandarpoonch, Srikanth, Gangotri I, II, III, Jaonli, Draupadi Ka Danda, and the Black Peak (Kala Nag). The meadows here are vast and untouched, often covered in sparkling snow during winter months, making the experience even more surreal.
Reaching Bakaria Top is the most rewarding part of the trek. From the summit, a 360° panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges unfolds in front of you, leaving you spellbound. It’s the perfect spot to rest, capture photographs, and enjoy packed refreshments while admiring the grandeur of nature.
After spending some time at the top, you’ll begin your descent back to Dayara Bugyal. The return trail feels easier and faster, with opportunities to enjoy the meadows from a different perspective.
By late afternoon, you’ll be back at your Dayara Bugyal campsite. Enjoy hot tea and snacks while watching the golden hues of the sunset illuminating the peaks. Dinner will be served at the campsite, followed by another night under a starlit sky.
Day 5. Gui To Raithal And Drive To Dehradun
Distance: ~6–7 km trek + 180 km drive
Time: 3–4 hours trek + 7–8 hours drive
Altitude: Dayara Bugyal (3,400 m) → Barsu (2,200 m) → Dehradun (640 m)
Your final day on the Dayara Bugyal Trek begins with a descent from the vast alpine meadows back to the charming Barsu village. The trail is mostly downhill, passing through lush oak, maple, and rhododendron forests. On the way, you will cross small mountain streams, open clearings, and agricultural fields that give a glimpse of local Himalayan life. The gradual descent makes the walk enjoyable, with constant views of distant snow-clad peaks accompanying you.
By mid-morning, you’ll reach Barsu village, a picturesque settlement surrounded by terraced fields and orchards. This marks the end of your trekking journey. From here, you’ll board your vehicle for a long yet scenic drive back to Dehradun.
The drive retraces the mountain roads through Uttarkashi, Harshil Valley views (if route taken), and Uttarkashi town, eventually following the Bhagirathi River before descending into the plains. En route, you can relive the memories of the trek—snow-filled meadows, panoramic Himalayan views, and nights under starry skies.
By evening, you’ll reach Dehradun (640 m), marking the conclusion of this unforgettable Himalayan adventure. From here, you can continue your onward journey by train, bus, or flight, carrying home everlasting memories of the Dayara Bugyal Trek.
